There is one museum on Easter Island and it's walking distance from the harbor area of Hanga Roa. Many of the historical remnants went to Santiago's museums, but we have been told that they will all return to Easter Island.
In the museum are artifacts which try to tell the story of how and why the moai were constructed. There are stone (obsidian) items which allegedly served as tools to carve the giant statues, as well as drawings of how they could have been placed on their altars.
